Series of Screenprints on paper
December 2017 – January 2018
Tigre, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Mimbre is a series of collaborative 2D prints made with Sarah Davies, using a combination of newsprint, photographic, drawn and painted recordings alongside graphic symbols to create a portait of Tigre. The work continues an ongoing exploration into the fluid nature of truth. The work used assumptions, misunderstandings and ignorance inherent in being a tourist to create, not only a portrait of a place but a form of communication, a discussion point between ourselves and the other artists, and an ongoing dialogue which added layers to the works day after day.
Graphic symbols amplified this, communication of communication or of key characteristics. While the work highlights issues and design typologies on a local level, during our time of fake news, the topics within the work resonate globally, connecting with rife ignorance and propaganda familiar in so many contexts.
